On coming out of the Old Synagogue, this is the view looking north up Ulica Szeroka - Wide Street. This was the main centre of Jewish market life; whilst Plac Wolnica was the smart area, this region was where the real business was done.
And this is the view from the other end, looking south towards the Old Synagogue. The Remu Synagogue is on the right, just out of shot. Incidentally for those who went to the smart restaurant on the Friday, the sister restaurant is also just out of shot on the right
This ancient looking building at the north end of the square is called ‘Noah’s Ark’ - I’m not sure why.
The picture below shows the Remu Synagogue. From inside this yard is the entrance to one of the old Jewish cemeteries, with the walls made from fragments of headstones which had been destroyed by the Nazis - but, since my visit was on a Saturday, the site was closed
