This is the house at No 13 Krakowska Street that used to belong to the Susser family. I don’t know who the Susser family were, except that they were a prominent, local Jewish family, and beyond it’s intrinsic attractiveness I don’t believe the building has any particular worth. However, I have included this set of pictures towards the beginning of the tour because they show what many believed to be the typical feature of Judaism - that there was great wealth and ostentation which was hidden away in Jewish areas.
I’m pleased that the top picture, taken in September 2006, shows that the building is undergoing some sort of restoration. The picture immediately above and below were taken in January of this year and give a better idea of the attractive neo-classical design and detailing of this 19th Century construction. The last pictures show the condition, both in January and September, of some of the other buildings further down the street
